Questions before you install.

Do I need Claude to use Briefly?

Yes. Briefly is a connector you add to Claude Desktop. You need the free Claude Desktop app installed first, then Briefly plugs into it. If you already use Claude for chat or writing, it’s the same app, and Briefly reads your client files from inside it.

Will my Mac warn me when I open the download?

It might. The connector isn’t yet signed with an Apple developer certificate, so macOS may show an unidentified developer notice the first time you open the file. Right-click the file, choose Open, and confirm once. Claude Desktop then shows its own notice that the extension isn’t verified by Anthropic, which is normal for any third-party connector. Neither notice means the file reached our servers. It installs locally either way.

Where do my client files live?

With the Briefly connector, client files live on your computer, in a folder you pick during setup. Briefly reads and writes files there directly, and nothing gets uploaded to a Briefly database or cloud storage account. The browser web app works differently. Its files live in Briefly’s hosted environment instead.

Is this a web app?

Briefly comes in two forms, and this page installs the Claude connector, where your team runs Briefly inside Claude reading folders on your own machines. With the web app, we connect your Salesforce and Outlook and build the client file for you, so there’s nothing for your IT to install.

What does Briefly’s server see?

With the Claude connector, our server sees your sign-in, a check that your seat is active, a de-identified layer of preference rules your firm builds over time, never tied to a client name, and a short usage record for each tool call. Client files never reach our servers. The web app differs, since its files live on our side instead.

Does Briefly work on Windows and Mac?

Yes, both. The same download and the same install steps work on macOS and Windows, so there’s nothing OS-specific to pick before you start. Claude Desktop also has a Linux beta on Ubuntu and Debian, though we haven’t certified Briefly there yet.

How long does setup take?

About five minutes if you already have Claude Desktop installed. Download Briefly, open the file, click Install in Claude, sign in, and point it at a folder on your computer. That’s the whole process, a handful of clicks with no IT ticket and no server setup required.
